Here’s the thing: what brought you to your current leadership position may not necessarily be what will make you successful as a leader. It’s not just about you anymore – your team’s success is now your success.
That’s why it’s crucial to ask yourself these questions: Can your team drive the changes that your organization needs? Are they able to not only meet the objectives but also help develop other leaders who can join the mission?
As a leader, it’s your responsibility to invest in your team’s leadership skills and help them develop the abilities to equip their own teams for success. Think of it as a ripple effect: if you invest in them, and they invest in others, your leadership impact will not just grow, but also compound over time.
Leaders develop other leaders to get the biggest impact possible.
However, as we move into leadership roles, we must “flip the switch” to recognize that no longer are we masters of our destiny. Our work is now all about the members of our team, how motivated they are and how effective they are in achieving the team’s objectives. To be effective in these leadership roles, we must learn to become effective coaches for our teammates.
